Phoenix to Bend, OR

Day 1.  Left home early on the 4th to avoid the hottest part of the day which we did.  Pulled into Hesperia, CA at 12:15.  Debbie's aunt & uncle were already there waiting for us.  We checked into the Springhill Suites and had a great visit and dinner.  We were in bed by 7:30 & asleep by 8:00. We were so tired the hotel could have fallen down and we wouldn't have known.

Day 2.  We were up early, not as early as the day before, but n the road @ 7:10 feeling good after along undisturbed sleep.  We set out toward Carson City which was our planned destination then decided we could make Reno.  Our plan was to find a hotel on the far side of Reno that was easy off easy on.  Well, lets say that didn't work out so well.  Surprised? Unfortunately we didn't see any hotel signs until we were past the exits. Not being ones to turn around unless absolutely necessary we were out of Reno and still hadn't found a hotel.  GPS said next closest hotels were in Susanville so we pushed on.  Turned into a 524 mile day, had dinner at the Pizza Factory ( yum ) and stayed at the Hill Top Inn.

Day 3.  A bit chilly this morning as we packed up to head towards Grants Pass.  Beautiful ride, Passed some of our friends going the other direction. Stopped at the Oregon Vortex which was pretty cool, took the tour.  The place was way off the beaten path, Debbie was hearing the theme from Deliverance. After safely escaping the vortex, we continued to Grants Pass.  Where we had dinner with Debbie's cousins then went to hang out and watch them square & round dance.  A great time was had by all.

Day 4.  Having decided not to go to Astoria we thought we wuld head out to the coast, but only after seeing the giant VW spiders.  Well, we weren't overly impressed with spiders, however our little detour caused us to fine Heaven on Earth.  What to our wondering eyes did appear, but two Motor Maids in good cheer.  We ended up riding them together and having a great time.

More later
